SLCMA were engaged by Reef Catchments in partnership with Isaac Regional council to deliver four Reef out the Rubbish events in 2016. The events were held at Carmila Beach and Clairview. Rubbish collected ranged from discarded camping items and general litter to fishing paraphernalia and broken fencing. Carmila Beach is identified as a potential nesting site and intertidal roost for local and migratory shorebirds. Participants were provided a presentation on Flat Back Turtles from Fay Griffiths of Mackay and District Turtle Watch Association.
