The Mackay-Whitsunday-Isaac Healthy Rivers to Reef Report Card gives ‘school report’-style grades to different elements of waterway health across freshwater, estuarine and marine environments. For each environment, a number of indices (dark orange) are reported on. These are broken into a series of indicator categories (pale orange) and then indicators (blue) (Figure 1).

Graph of indicators for habitat and hydrology, and for seagrass.

Figure 1. Environmental indices (dark orange), indicator categories (pale orange; where not applicable no category is listed) and indicators (blue) used to assess the condition of waterways in the Mackay-Whitsunday-Isaac Region. The monitored waterway type  is represented in the water drops as per the legend (grey = no data). Note: Litter is also assessed in urban areas. *The fish barriers indicator has three measures.

Note: TSS = total suspended solids, DO = dissolved oxygen, DIN = dissolved inorganic nitrogen, FRP = filterable reactive phosphorus, NOx = oxidised nitrogen, PP = particulate phosphorus, PN = particulate nitrogen, dist. = distance, CTF = cease to flow, CV = coefficient of variation.
