Coastal marine monitoring in the Mackay Whitsundays region has increased. North Queensland Bulk Ports (NQBP) has implemented a marine program that covers over 100 km of our regions coastline around the ports of Hay Point, Mackay, and Abbot Point.
The program includes:
- extensive marine water quality monitoring, with over 20 logger sites, collecting data 24/7, 365 days a year.
- Seagrass monitoring covering 470km2 (47,000ha) of the regions seabed
- Annual surveys of coral cover and species composition across four coast island groups and 24 permanent survey sites (Victor Island, Round Top Island, Slade Island, and Keswick Island).
