The Peri-Urban project was a 3 year project that finished in June 2016. The Central Queensland Landcare Network (made up of Sarina, Pioneer & Whitsunday Landcare Groups) engaged local non-commercial landholders in managing weeds and planting endemic plants on their properties. Participants were offered a site inspection from a Landcare Officer to identify the weeds species and endemic vegetation they have onsite and discuss the objective of the landholders. A Land Management Plan (LMP) was then prepared which will assist the landholder to achieve their land management goals. This LMP and a package of site specific information, such weed species control, pasture management, regional ecosystem maps & best practice management of that landscape, is provided to the landholder. Each landholder also received 40 free native tube stock and access to the WCL’s weed control equipment. WCL engaged 25 Landholder each year and 1000 plants were provided to landholders in 2015-16.
