ABOUT UWSF
The UWSF, developed by the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation (DESI), is a tool for assessing the level of practice being applied to managing erosion during construction, stormwater runoff, and sewage treatment discharges, relative to best practice and legislative standards. UWSF data can be used to assess practice level at local government, through to regional, and whole of Reef catchment scale. Having a better understanding of how regional councils address nutrient and fine sediment loads from urban landscapes is an important part of working together as a region toward water quality improvements. Responses from this workshop directly inform Isaac Regional Council’s UWSF score in three key areas:
- Developing Urban: construction phase activities relating to erosion and sediment control and the design and installation of stormwater treatment systems.
- Established Urban: stormwater infrastructure in already developed areas.
- Point Source: wastewater treatment facilities and linked sewer networks.
Representing Isaac Regional Council
It is very important that Council has strong representation from staff, including on-ground staff, in a range of areas, for example: engineering, town planning, water and sewer, environment, parks and gardens and natural resource management. The workshops will help identify areas where more work is needed, as well as highlighting where opportunities may exist and where programs are currently strong.
Round 3 UWSF workshops will be facilitated by Water by Design and are proudly supported by Healthy Rivers to Reef Partnership and the Queensland Government.
