The Tourism industry in the Whitsundays facilitates scientific research by supporting surveys and monitoring including provision of boats, crew and food to research groups including the GBRMPA and Reef Check. Without the support of the tourism industry the cost of surveying of areas offshore may be prohibitive to gathering vital data needed to provide a true understanding on changes to the reef.
A data logger was installed on Explore Whitsunday’s Tallship, Solway Lass, in 2017. The data collected will provide the GBRMPA and the Healthy Rivers To Reef Partnership with important information to guide management planning on the Reef.
